Old North Landscape Development has recently expanded its landscape design and installation services to Wilmington, which provides our designers with fresh ideas and inspiration to bring back to our Triangle customers. One of our recent projects there is a real showstopper.

This Mediterranean home, perched on the shore overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean, exudes an Old-World feel. Its arched stucco, light and airy colors, and textured materials contribute to the Mediterranean aesthetic. The homeowners were interested in adding resort-style outdoor features to complete the home while blending with the existing architectural style. We were able to blend the new elements so seamlessly, it is almost impossible to tell the difference between the original construction and the newly installed features.

The finished project provides a way for the homeowners and their guests to smoothly move from the street side entranceway to the back recreational living spaces easily. We installed a new driveway and guest parking area using pervious marble and travertine that matches the light colorway of the existing house. We added interest and some division between the two spaces by alternating stone patterns—herringbone for the driveway and Tahari for the parking area. The driveway connects to walkways constructed on each side of the home that lead visitors through stucco and travertine archways to the backyard entertaining areas. Custom limestone stepping stones also lead visitors from the front yard to the backyard’s pooland lounge areas.

A new bulkhead wall divides the landscaped lawn in the backyard from a sloped terrace that leads to sweeping water views. Seat walls around the infinity pool deck and spa are topped with a custom shellstone-embedded coping. A Grecian-inspired marble water feature creates a soothing cascade of water into the spa.

I had the pleasure of overseeing this project, working with another landscape architect and designer to perfect all the custom details for this Mediterranean manor. Next, Old North State will be overseeing design and installation of outdoor living areas, privacy walls, and landscaping for a large estate overlooking Cape Fear River. We cannot wait to show you this and other projects to inspire ideas about how you can turn your backyard into a beautiful oasis.
