New fabrics, and newfound furnishings mixed with old favorites have found their way into a client’s study that I’m designing. My inspiration and anchor for the room is the bookshelf; it feels new, unpredictable and it’s a handmade work of art. A Pierre Jeanneret chair and an Edward Wormley Tête à Tête – which can sometimes seem unattainable as vintage pieces, but are now available and manufactured in High Point – make a great addition to the study without breaking the bank. Vintage and antique pieces excite me; I love incorporating them into my designs. It makes a home feel more collected.

Another key element of my design philosophy is to play with contrasting elements. In this study, the rugged texture of the wallpaper and pottery urns is juxtaposed with a glamorous glass and brass chandelier and a furry silk velvet bench. I think it adds interest when opposing styles, finishes and materials create visual tension. My rooms are complete when all the pieces come together in a cohesive vision – and it not only makes my clients happy, but also excites my sensibility.
